David Bradley Sr., longtime resident of Pollock, Idaho, was born to Everett and Vinita Bradley in Watsonville, Calif., on Jan. 26, 1937. He passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2018, in Lewiston, surrounded by love until the end.
A Paul Newman look-alike in his younger years, he was a fun-loving rebel, but also a proud, hardworking, beer drinking, bar brawling, tough, storytelling man’s man who worked relentlessly to provide for his family. He entertained family and friends with unbelievable stories of his childhood antics while growing up in Corralitos, Calif.
Over the years, he worked for Circle C Ranch, Salmon River Lumber Co. and mined in Elko, Nev. He was married to Norma, the love of his life, for 61 years. Family meant everything to him; he and Norma would drive hundreds of miles just to babysit the grandkids for a weekend or to host a family get-together.
He loved to log, gather firewood, hunt and cook for his family. David made sure his family never went hungry, finding unique ways to prepare the wild game he hunted. He would always show up on the doorstep with fresh maple bars for his grandkids.
Inside, he was a big teddy bear who loved animals, especially his dog, “Scooter,” and children. He leaves behind his loving wife, Norma, and five children: Don (Zale) Leigh of Roseville, Calif., David (Lynn) Bradley Jr., of Lewiston, Nick (Lorraine) Bradley of Ronan, Mont., Joanne (Jim) Bonnalie of Lewiston and Lisa (Craig) Welch of Lewiston, who loved him dearly. The best Papa ever to: Kris (Jake) Naven and Vanessa (Robert) Faaborg; Megan and Jack Bradley, Katie and Nicholas Bradley; Geno (Holly) Bonnalie and Jade (Ben) House; and Mackenzie, Carlie and Kellie Welch. Papa also is leaving behind his seven great-grandchildren, with another one on the way.
He is survived by his sister, Sylvia Hender, and brother Richard Bradley, as well as multiple nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Marian Ivanovich and Janice Jensen. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
