Obituary for Frank Olander

Print
Frank B. Olander was born March 16, 1934, at Gordan, Neb., to Hillard “Ole” Olander and Mary V. Parrill. He moved to Buhl, Idaho, at age 6, and went to school in the Buhl School through the eighth grade. He worked for Aslett Construction on the road in Pierce and on the prairie in the early ’50s. He met Bernadette Beckman in Cottonwood during the fall of ’52. They were married Feb. 13, 1953.

Moving to Arco, Idaho, and then to Buhl, he farmed with his father and worked on an Angus beef farm. He moved to Lewiston in September 1954 and worked for Potlatch for 10 years. He then transferred to Dunclick Block Co., and then to the Idaho Transportation Department as mechanic and shop supervisor for 28 years, retiring in 1996.

Frank is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bernadette; four sons, Terry (Peggy) of Lewiston, Allen of Lewiston, Bryon (partner Linda) of Spokane, and Scott of Lewiston; brothers Dean of Idaho Falls and Vernon (Shirley) of Twin Falls; six grandkids; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Marie (Glen) Clark, Doris (Don) Achenback and Clarence (Sherri); and granddaughter Ronda Bacon.

Frank bowled for 58 years, mostly at Orchard Lanes. Hunting with all his boys was the highlight of his life, camping and fishing and celebrating the holidays with family and friends. He was a Boy Scout leader, baseball coach and even tried his hand at boxing with James Grow.
