Obituary for Robert WIlliam Vantrease

Robert “Bob” entered the gates of heaven to spend eternity with Jesus on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2023. Bob was born Sept. 3, 1931, in Boles, Idaho, to Leonard and Eva Vantrease. He was one of seven children. His early childhood was spent in Tammany and Anatone, where he graduated as a Wildcat from Anatone High School. Bob met his future wife in Anatone, Selma Dixon.

During the Korean War he joined the U.S. Navy and was a boiler tender on several ships. Bob married Selma on a short leave. They spent 68 years together. He then worked at Potlatch Forest Inc. until retirement, then a few years at Bennet Lumber Co.

Bob was a well-known teaser with a big sense of humor. All who knew him has a story to tell. He was also generous and helped many people. He lost Selma in 2021, from which he never recovered.

He leaves behind two brothers, Jim and Glen; one sister Ruby Johnson; two children, Robert L. and Retta A. Vantrease; four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A special thanks to those who selflessly loved and cared for him until the end. Donations in his name may be given to the Anatone Methodist Church.
